Football Tournament Raises £6k for Charity
16 teams, 200 people, 3 hours of football, 38 matches and 1 state-of-the-art facility all contributed to the huge amount raised for charity.
On a hot and sunny day in April, Alliance Leisure hosted their inaugural charity football tournament, aiming to raise £5k for Brain Tumour Focus. 16 teams from across the leisure and construction industries came together to compete for the title of tournament champions.
Tournament organiser, John Leaver from Alliance Leisure, commented on the success of the day, “We were blown away by how many people wanted to support the event and we filled the 16 teams really quickly. The level of support and donations has been amazing and I’m really proud of the funds raised and how much everyone enjoyed the day. I’ve even pencilled in next year’s date already.”
The teams on the day included Alliance Leisure, CGP MEP, Curo Construction, Etec, FMG Consulting, Gladstone, Hadron, Hensall, Indigo Fitness, Pellikaan, Prospec, Roberts Limbrick, Speller Metcalfe, TG Escapes, The Sports Consultancy and Universal Group.
The day ended with two finals, a Champions League group and Europa Cup group. FMG were overall champions, with Alliance Leisure winning the Europa Cup.
Brain Tumour Focus is a new charity setup by Mel Crossland who was herself diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2023. Shockingly, brain tumours are the biggest killer of children and those under 40, yet only 1% of cancer funding is allocated to brain cancer research. Mel has set out to raise much needed funds to support research, the provision of equipment, and the treatment of brain cancer. The charity will have a new website available for donations shortly.
The event took place at Derby Racecourse Football Hub, the site of an £8.4m development by Alliance Leisure for Derby City Council and the Football Foundation back in February 2023.
