Transformation of Troon Leisure Centre Reaches Key Construction Milestone
The £5.5 million transformation of Troon Leisure Centre has reached a significant milestone, with construction now around halfway complete as work continues to deliver a modern, more sustainable leisure facility for the local community.
The project, which we are delivering on behalf of South Ayrshire Council, is progressing well, with several major structural milestones now complete. The steel frame has been erected for the extensions, concrete floor slabs have been poured, including the installation of the gas membrane and the south end of the new roof has now been completed.
Construction teams are now focused on the next phase of the programme, with external walls and roofing taking shape. Works include the installation of insulation, liner panels, cavity barriers and zinc cladding, which will significantly improve the building’s thermal performance while creating a durable, weather-tight exterior.
Once complete, the redeveloped leisure centre will provide improved health and wellbeing facilities for residents alongside enhanced energy efficiency, supporting South Ayrshire Council’s ambitions to reduce carbon emissions and future-proof the facility for years to come.
The scheme combines retained, refurbished and new-build elements. The investment will transform the existing centre through the creation of a new reception area and café, an expanded and modernised fitness suite, upgraded changing facilities and improved circulation throughout the building. The project also includes the refurbishment of the sports hall and swimming pool areas, alongside the installation of low-carbon technologies designed to reduce operational costs and improve environmental performance.
Jo Cameron, Delivery Manager at Alliance Leisure, said:
It’s fantastic to see the project reach this important stage. With the main structure now in place, the transformation is becoming increasingly visible, giving the local community a real sense of what the completed facility will offer. The investment is about much more than upgrading a building. It will provide a modern, accessible and energy-efficient leisure centre that supports healthier lifestyles while helping South Ayrshire Council meet its long-term sustainability objectives.
The project has been procured through the UK Leisure Framework, which is owned and managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL), with the wider project team comprising of Thomas Johnstone, Bellrock, Holmes Miller, Struer and Wallace Whittle. By working with trusted, Scotland-based partners, we’re ensuring the Troon Leisure Club upgrade is delivered with local insight and expertise.
Our Engagement team have also been working closely with the council to create and update a project microsite, which can be found here.
We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses, with the aim of project completion towards the start of 2027.

The works, on behalf of Isle of Anglesey County Council, consisted of converted 3 old tennis courts into a new 3G pitch which has a rugby compliant surface.

Managed by Alliance Leisure via the UK Leisure Framework, owned by Denbighshire Council and managed by Denbighshire Leisure, Newmarket Leisure Centre in West Suffolk, Colwyn Leisure Centre in North Wales and Cossington Street Sport Centre in Leicester have all undergone extensive makeovers through the pandemic to realign their provision to the needs of the community they serve.
These include a new soft play facility with a dedicated sensory room, a second exercise studio and an extension to the gym creating a functional training zone, with the addition of a new EGYM facility to attract a new user demographic. The centre, which is managed by Abbeycroft Leisure, also now benefits from new gym changing facilities, a new reception area and access control as well as a new Paddy & Scott’s style café, party and meeting rooms.
In Leicester, one of the UK’s worst hit coronavirus areas, Alliance Leisure remodelled a traditional, under-utilised sports hall into a flexible workout space at Cossington Street Sports centre, forming part of a £2.3 million leisure regeneration scheme with Leicester City Council.
