The extension of the gym at Braunstone Leisure Centre opened in December 2022 after a £400k refurbishment.

A large proportion of the gym equipment had not been replaced since the centre’s launch in 2004 so the facility was starting to feel tired.  With the equipment:member ratio of 43, well above the industry benchmark of 25–30 members for each station, the gym offering needed to expand to prevent capacity issues leading to cancellations from members not being able to access equipment at peak times.

The development saw Alliance Leisure expand the gym to 90 stations by converting the Sport Services offices at Braunstone into gym space.
