Thirsk and Sowerby Leisure Centre
Project Completed: October 2021
Value: £4m
The new Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centre in North Yorkshire was officially opened in November 2021 by Record breaking Atlantic rower Jasmine Harrison.
The development comprised of expanding the gym to three times the size of the current facility – which for the first time now operates 24/7 – a new studio for exercise classes and meetings, as well as a cycling studio.
Outdated plant equipment which forced the centre’s pools to close several times over recent year, have be replaced with greener, more environmentally sustainable equipment. A new roof has also addressed much needed repairs and condensation issues, and LED lighting installed throughout.
The gym changing rooms have been updated and the reception seating area refurbished with new signage and wall art introduced around the building.
Alliance Leisure was appointed by Hambleton District Council at the start of the project as the developer for the scheme, with ISG Ltd the main contractor.
