Construction Underway on Farnborough Pools and Fitness

Alliance Leisure joined Rushmoor Borough Council and project partners on Wednesday 30th September at a groundbreaking event to mark a major milestone in the delivery of the new leisure facility in Farnborough.

Once complete, the new facility will provide an accessible, inclusive and modern space designed to support the health and wellbeing of the local community.

Located on the site of the former Queensmead car park, the new community facility will form a key part of the council’s wider regeneration plans for Farnborough town centre.

A Facility Designed around Community Need

Following extensive needs analysis, community engagement and site feasibility work, Farnborough Pools and Fitness will include:

A 25-metre, six-lane main pool
A dedicated learner pool
A modern fitness suite, including power-assisted equipment
Flexible fitness studios, including a spin studio
A café and community space
A children’s soft-play area
An outdoor play area
A new car park located on the Pinehurst car park site

Planning Permission Granted for new King Alfred Leisure Centre

Plans for a new King Alfred Leisure Centre have taken a major step forward after planning permission was officially granted for the redevelopment of the site.

We are delighted to be delivering this exciting project for Brighton and Hove City Council, which was procured through the UK Leisure Framework, owned and managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL), working with Willmott Dixon, GT3 Architects, Hadron Consulting and the wider project team.

The approved scheme will deliver a modern, accessible and sustainable new leisure centre that will replace the ageing existing building and provide improved sports, leisure and wellbeing facilities for residents of all ages and abilities.

Facilities include an eight-lane swimming pool, teaching pool, leisure water area, larger fitness suite, sports hall, exercise studios, soft play facilities, community space and café with sea views.

The new building will be constructed on part of the current site, allowing the existing King Alfred Leisure Centre to remain open while construction takes place. Once the new facility is complete and operational, the current building will be demolished.

The new leisure centre is a key part of the council’s wider Sports Facilities Investment Plan for the whole city.

With planning permission now secured, we can move forward and finally deliver the modern, accessible leisure centre our city deserves.

After decades of waiting and a series of plans that never made it this far, residents will soon see real progress on a new King Alfred Leisure Centre.

We’re never going to find a scheme that suits everyone, but we’ve listened to resident feedback throughout the process and made changes to the design, including the building’s appearance, in response to comments from residents and planning consultees.

We’ve now got a scheme that can be delivered while keeping the current centre open so there’s no loss to facilities, helping people of all ages stay active now for years to come. This is a major investment in Brighton & Hove’s future.

Proposals for the New Leisure Centre

The plans include:

a much larger fitness suite with 150 stations, compared to around 30 stations in the current facility
a larger main pool (8 lanes compared to 6) with walk-in steps and Pool Pod
a larger (17m), more versatile teaching pool with Pool Pod and a movable floor giving the operator flexibility to offer a range of activities including shallow water sessions and Varioplay
a dedicated leisure water area incorporating features such as interactive play, an enclosed flume and jets/fountains
a dedicated spin cycling studio along with two group exercise studios
a 6-court sports hall, with a flexible layout for activities such as roller sports, inflatables, kids’ birthday parties, 5-a-side football, 3×3 basketball and volleyball
a multi-use community room
a much larger cafe with sea views
an interactive soft play area over 4 levels
an underground car park with 122 spaces including blue badge spaces and direct access into the building
improved accessibility throughout the building including clear wayfinding, a centrally located Changing Places facility, and blue badge parking beside the lift

The project will now move into the final stages of pre-construction work, and we look forward to sharing further updates when they arise. The new leisure centre is expected to open in 2028.

Transformation of Troon Leisure Centre Reaches Key Construction Milestone

The £5.5 million transformation of Troon Leisure Centre has reached a significant milestone, with construction now around halfway complete as work continues to deliver a modern, more sustainable leisure facility for the local community.

The project, which we are delivering on behalf of South Ayrshire Council, is progressing well, with several major structural milestones now complete. The steel frame has been erected for the extensions, concrete floor slabs have been poured, including the installation of the gas membrane and the south end of the new roof has now been completed.

Construction teams are now focused on the next phase of the programme, with external walls and roofing taking shape. Works include the installation of insulation, liner panels, cavity barriers and zinc cladding, which will significantly improve the building’s thermal performance while creating a durable, weather-tight exterior.

Once complete, the redeveloped leisure centre will provide improved health and wellbeing facilities for residents alongside enhanced energy efficiency, supporting South Ayrshire Council’s ambitions to reduce carbon emissions and future-proof the facility for years to come.

The scheme combines retained, refurbished and new-build elements. The investment will transform the existing centre through the creation of a new reception area and café, an expanded and modernised fitness suite, upgraded changing facilities and improved circulation throughout the building. The project also includes the refurbishment of the sports hall and swimming pool areas, alongside the installation of low-carbon technologies designed to reduce operational costs and improve environmental performance.

By working with trusted, Scotland-based partners, we’re ensuring the Troon Leisure Club upgrade is delivered with local insight and expertise.

Battersea Park Sports Ground Refurbishment Complete for Wandsworth Council

We have successfully completed the refurbishment of the all-weather sports ground at Battersea Park for Wandsworth Council, securing the future of one of London’s most valued community sports facilities.

Delivered through an investment of approximately £600,000 by Wandsworth Council, the project has transformed the existing artificial turf pitches, replacing ageing playing surfaces with modern, high-performance systems designed to support intensive community use for years to come.

Procured through the UK Leisure Framework, owned and managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL), the scheme was delivered by Alliance Leisure alongside specialist delivery partners SSL Group Ltd and Velocity Sports Ltd.

The refurbishment ensures the facility continues to meet the standards required for England Hockey accreditation, safeguarding its role as a home for West London hockey clubs while also supporting football, schools and wider community sport.

Located within one of London’s most iconic parks, the sports ground plays an important role in encouraging physical activity, supporting local clubs and providing accessible sporting opportunities for residents of all ages. The investment reflects Wandsworth Council’s continued commitment to maintaining high-quality leisure infrastructure that benefits both current and future generations.

Alliance Leisure Starts Work on New Active Play Facility at Lagoon Leisure Centre

We are delighted to announce that work has now started on site at Lagoon Leisure Centre to deliver an exciting new active play facility for the local community.

Delivered in partnership with Renfrewshire Council and operated by OneRen, the £1m project will create a vibrant family destination, scheduled for completion in late Summer 2026.

Working alongside project manager Bellrock, contractor Thomas Johnstone Ltd, CD Architects and specialist play provider Play Revolution, we will transform an underused space into a dynamic attraction designed to encourage families to spend more active leisure time together.

The new facility will feature a TAGactive arena where users can test their strategy, speed and agility as they compete to collect points using wristband technology across a multi-level climbing maze. The arena will include tunnels, crawl spaces, cargo climbs, inflatable features and climbing frames designed to promote fitness, fun and friendly competition.

Alongside the TAG arena, the development will include dedicated areas for babies and toddlers with interactive toys, slides, ramps and sensory play features, as well as free-play zones with climbing frames and slides suitable for a range of ages. A dedicated sensory space will also be created to support children with additional support needs, featuring interactive panels, mirrors and calming play elements.

A spacious seating area and enhanced café provision will allow parents and carers to comfortably supervise children while enjoying the wider facilities, with a dedicated party room also included to support birthdays and community events.

The new facility mix has been carefully chosen to maximise the use of existing space while delivering wider community benefits and creating new revenue opportunities for the centre.

Trowbridge Pupils Help Create Lasting Legacy at Time Capsule Event

Pupils from schools across Trowbridge have come together to bury a time capsule at the site of the town’s new leisure centre, capturing a snapshot of life in 2026 for future generations.

As work continues on the modern new facility, pupils marked this key milestone by placing a collection of memories, reflections and creative work into a sealed capsule, which will remain buried on site until at least 2056.

The time capsule includes a wide range of pupil-created items, such as letters, drawings, graphs, photo montages and photographs. A memorial book created by St Augustine’s Catholic College to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II has also been included, alongside construction materials provided by Pellikaan – offering a glimpse into how the leisure centre itself was built.

As part of the event, pupils were also given a behind-the-scenes look at the construction site, including a tour of the developing swimming pool areas – bringing the project to life and giving them a real sense of what the finished centre will offer.

The event provided a fun and unique opportunity for young people to be part of a major local development and leave their mark on Trowbridge’s future.

The time capsule will remain buried at the site for at least 30 years, offering future residents a unique glimpse into life in Trowbridge in 2026 when it is eventually uncovered.

The time capsule is a lovely way to connect this project with the community it is being built to serve, something that aligns closely with Alliance Leisure’s commitment to creating facilities that have a lasting impact on local people. When the capsule is opened in years to come, it will not only tell the story of the centre’s construction, but also of the young people and communities who were part of its journey from the very beginning.

This was a really special moment, bringing together young people from across Trowbridge to create something that will be discovered and enjoyed by future generations.

When complete, the new Trowbridge leisure centre will offer a wide range of facilities, including:

A six‑lane, 25m swimming pool and learner pool
A 120‑station gym
Two fitness studios and an immersive cycle studio
A community meeting room
A new Café
An adventure play area
A dedicated Live Well suite for older adults

Carlton Active Programme Progresses into Early Preparation Phase

Carlton Active Programe Progresses

The Richard Herrod Centre in Carlton has been officially handed over from Gedling Borough Council to us, alongside appointed construction team Universal Civils and Build, marking a significant milestone in the progression of the Carlton Active programme.

Following the building’s closure last month, the site will now move into an early preparation phase. This will include setting up the site, installing hoarding, carrying out surveys and investigations, making the building safe and secure and removing internal fittings in preparation for potential future redevelopment.

The project is currently in detailed design, with a planning application expected later this year.

Carlton Active is being designed to create more than just a place to exercise. The vision is to create a vibrant community destination where people can move, meet, socialise and improve their wellbeing in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The proposals for the new Carlton Active will include modern swimming facilities, fitness and wellbeing spaces, family-focused activity areas and flexible community environments, all brought together within a contemporary and sustainable new building.

Alliance Leisure Completes £15m Transformation at Doncaster Dome

We are excited to announce the completion of works to the Lagoons at Doncaster Dome, on behalf of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, funded by City of Doncaster Council.

The newly redeveloped Lagoons represent a significant milestone in the regeneration vision for the iconic leisure destination.

The project was procured via the UK Leisure Framework, owned and managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL) and was delivered in partnership with project managers Abacus, principal contractor Universal, architects Saunders Boston, pool specialists Myrtha Pools and FT Leisure, plus CGP and Hensall delivering M&E services.

The redevelopment modernises one of the Dome’s most popular attractions, enhancing the visitor experience while securing the long-term future of the facility for the local community.

Two new racer slides and a new indoor splash play area with a variety of interactive water features form part of the extensive programme of upgrades which have taken place over the past 18 months.

Major works have also been undertaken to replace the glazing, redesign the main entrance area and install new heating and ventilation systems responsible for heating and maintaining water and air quality within the swimming pool environment.

The project has aimed to modernise the pool complex, while preserving the character of the Grade II listed building, which opened in 1989 and was listed in 2023 becoming one of the youngest listed buildings in the country.

Major Facility Upgrade at The PEAK Now Complete

The redevelopment of The PEAK leisure centre in Stirling, Scotland, is now complete, sporting a significantly expanded gym and two brand-new fitness studios.

The £2.45 million investment, delivered on behalf of Stirling Council, marks the successful transformation of one of Scotland’s leading community leisure facilities. The project, led by Alliance Leisure, has created modern, accessible and inspiring spaces designed to meet growing demand and support the health and wellbeing of communities across Stirlingshire.

First opened in 2009, The PEAK, which is managed by Active Stirling has long been a cornerstone of sport, physical activity and community life in the region. Originally designed to support around 3,500 members, prior to the redevelopment the centre served more than 8,000, with demand for gym and group fitness provision continuing to rise. This latest redevelopment ensures the facility can continue to deliver in line with community needs while supporting long-term sustainability.

The project has optimised the existing building footprint by repurposing three low occupancy courts within the sports hall to create a substantially enlarged first-floor gym and two purpose-built ground floor studios via a new mezzanine structure. This intelligent use of space has enabled the introduction of modern fitness equipment and flexible studio environments, significantly enhancing the overall customer experience without the need for new build expansion.

Alongside doubling the size of the gym, the new studios allow for a broader, inclusive and more diverse programme of group exercise classes, increasing capacity and creating more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to be active.

A specialist delivery team brought the project to life, including Thomas Johnstone Ltd as main contractor, with support from CD Architects, Axiom Project Services, Struer, Wallace Whittle, ABT Safety and Hutchi.

Consultation Underway for New Community Stadium

Alliance Leisure are working on behalf of Warwick District Council on plans for a new community stadium at Myton Green.

The proposed facilities will be the new home ground for Leamington FC, and the relocation of the athletics facilities from Edmondscote to the same area.

The Community Stadium plans developed by Leamington FC and the District Council, would see the construction of a 4000-capacity football stadium with a 3G artificial pitch, conference facilities, café and community facilities on land adjacent to Fusiliers Way.

The relocation of the athletics facilities will ensure that the many clubs and schools that train on the existing facilities are able to use a modern, fit-for-purpose facility. The proposed pavilion will also have space the local community can use. The current site of the athletics facilities will become part of a new public park.
